Community Conversations

Community Conversations are intentional spaces for a group to have conversations pertaining to a specific topic, which is set by the group. Topics may range from white accountability to BIPOC healing to post-election processing to name a few of our most recent spaces. Community conversations are held via Zoom throughout the pandemic and space is limited to 15 participants per session. These are FREE sessions sponsored by our Change Stewards and are on a first come first served basis.

White Accountability

A space where individuals who identify their race/ethnicity as white, and have a basic understanding that they are racist by virtue of their whiteness, come together to be challenged, pushed and held accountable for their part in upholding white supremacist culture. We engage in practices that include self reflection, pair shares, whole group dialogues and pose personal challenges. Our next three sessions will be held on: Saturday, May 15; Saturday, June 5 and; Saturday, July 10. All sessions will begin at 6 PM EST / 3:00 PM PT. To reserve your spot please email vrodriguez@facilitatechange.org with the subject line “White Accountability”.

BIPOC Healing

A space for individuals who identify their race/ethnicity as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color to hold space for and with each other around their lived experiences with racism and white supremacy in order to create a space for healing. Topics may range from general space holding to exploring anti-blackness in the Latinx community and beyond. Our next session will be held May 21, 6:30 PM EST / 3:30 PM PT . To reserve your spot please email kvasudev@facilitatechange.org with the subject line “BIPOC Healing”.

Dinner & Dialogue

Dinner and Dialogue is an intentional space to build community over a shared meal while exploring intersectional social justice concepts through facilitated conversation. It’s an opportunity to connect with other community members, learn about issues impacting Rhode Islanders and what is currently being done around said issue, and practice vulnerability and personal story sharing.

Each Dinner & Dialogue series is made up of three sessions: the first focused on ‘what’, the second focused on ‘so what’, and the final focused on ‘now what’. This allows for initial exposure to the topic, a deeper dive into how the topic impacts participants individually, and then a final session focused on action planning and how to move forward.

Dinner & Dialogue is offered seasonally and the topic changes for each season. This is a FREE opportunity and space is limited to 15 participants. Dinner & Dialogue has continued virtually during the pandemic. Past series topics include Police Brutality,  Reproductive Justice, and Navigating Harm. The next Dinner & Dialogue is TBD and more information will follow soon.
